![]() It's like when you look for new "Sci-Fi" anime, it's just used in the place of magic where it's a technological explanation of a super power like Railgun, yes, mass drivers are cool and they can be used to launch cargo into space cheaply, but a human can't be a mass driver, only a machine. It's not just analog, I like tangibility, something you can see and touch like the concept of a "hero ship", a ship worth making not only models of but also manuals, something that inspires engineers to want to build the technology of the future. It's really nice and the size discrepancy doesn't bother me, but it might be worth knowing what your friend's preferences are on this sort of thing :) Otherwise, you'll have a tall, thin Dune book with all its sequels next to it in a different size. For people who want to own the whole series, they might want the mass market version of the original Dune so it can fit nicely with the other books. ![]() But here's one thing you should know: They just released the five Dune sequels in the same cover art style, and they're only available in mass market paperback dimensions. The former is 8.2" x 5.4" and has about 700 pages, and the latter is 7.6" x 4.2" with about 900 pages.įor most people, it comes down to personal preference on which one is better, though it seems like most people prefer the "nice" version. It's not as nice, but it still has a cool silver shine on the "DUNE" logo. And then there's the mass market paperback, which is shorter and fatter. There's the "nice" version which is taller and narrower, and it has a beautiful matte finish. There is one thing the other commenters haven't mentioned, though - there are two paperback versions of this cover. ![]() :) It's such a beautiful cover and I confess that it was definitely a big factor in getting me to finally pick up Dune and read it. Like other commenters have mentioned, this is the most current edition, so it'll be easy to find anywhere that sells new books. ![]()
